Hello all,

I have a home built in 1980 and after inspection a year ago did not identify the pipes in the basement. (I'm looking to create a bathroom in the basement.)

The pipe coming down is the drain for the house, showers/toilets etc.

I am trying to determine if the pipe on the left (with cover on) was put in place for a potential toilet or if it is possibly the cleanout.

Might be simple, but I am no plumber :)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'd say that's just another clean out. If you wanted to install a toilet there, more extensive work would be needed such as breaking into the floor to re-work that pipe and to install a flange. Additionally, if would need to be vented. Also, the center of the hole must be 12 inches from the wall.

Thanks for the replies.

I am attaching another drawing. The black lines represent where the pipe leads and the blue is proposed. It is confusing because the pipes seemingly go two different directions. The left pipe appears to go outside the basement, and the other back into the basement.

Your second lower circle on the right is actually just the cap.
Yes it is an outside wall.

When removing the cap on the left there just appears to be sediment at the bottom.

Good advice on that, I would not be looking to damage the footer.

So the pipe on the left is still believed to be a cleanout and not a rough-in toilet? Just clarifying.

Thanks for the help so far.
