HDPE water pipe - How to clean prior to caulking

I need to redo some caulking around a HDPE water pipe. I want to make sure that all grease, films, etc. are removed from the pipe so that the new caulk will adhere. What should I use or not use to clean the HDPE pipe? Alcohol? Mineral spirits? Something else?

Use isopropyl alcohol. The higher the percentage the better. 99% if you can get it. Lower percentage will just be more work and take longer to dry.
