Hi. I just finished a four month renovation on an investment property. After getting the gas turned back on and the water heater fired up, I discovered that the kitchen faucet (new, single handle) has equal pressure whether in the hot or cold position, BUT I get no hot water from the hot position - it comes out cold. I let it run and run and no hot at all. Hot water works fine at all the other faucets in the house. I turned off the valve at the hot water heater and that causes the water to stop flowing at the sink. How is hot water leaving the water heater but coming out of the faucet cold??? Any ideas?

That is because you live in Austin, TX. Wierd things happen there.:D
Just kidding.
When you turn off the valve to the water heater did you check all the other fixtures in the house to verify that they all have NO water flow from hot side and that they also DO have cold water flow from only the cold side.
