gas or air from hot water

I put in a 2 gallon water heater right below my bathroom sink...Works nice...I hAVE IT ON A TIMER TO HEAT AT 5am AND 4 pm....THAT'S WHEN I AM HOME AND LIKELY TO USE IT....When I first turn it on a little air spurts out the the hot water...Is the the sacrificial element working or is something wrong?

It may be. Make, self installed or pro and well or municipal water supply?

ADDENDUM (Fr. For I Forgot)-

Is there a thermal expansion tank somewhere on your system and is there a temp/pressure relief valve on the POU tank?

I put it in myself....Does it need to be grounded for the sacrificial element to work...?It is powered thru a two prong adapter...Charlie

I'm 14 miles away this evening and leaving at 6AM in the morn for a week and a half...I'll get the picture then....I am not a plumber, but the first one I put in lasted 15 years with no "burping" Disconnected the hot line to the sink and routed it to to the input of the small heater. Took the outlet of the small heater to the hot side of the sink.....No 45 second wait for hot water...My big heater is 35 feet away...Thanks for the interest...Charlie

if it aint piped like this, it aint correctly piped

if the cold is fed on the bottom a vacuum breaker is required 6'' above the water heater.

what is happening is. water is being back syphoned out of the heater into the cold line.

when this happens the air bubbles in the water. go to the top of the tank.

when you open the faucet ;;whiich just so happens to be the top of your system, the air comes out.

stop the back syphon, you will stop the void , which will stop da air

GOOD CATCH... may be a bottom feed WH...

The anode rod may also be out gassing as he is on a softener.
