I recently bought my house and the previous owner is AWOL in regards to any questions I have pertaining to the house. I am figuring this out as I go. However he did mention that he installed a French drain system (attached images). I know it is with PVC piping as the pictures depict. However in the first pic there is a red valve that closes the pipes. What is that for? What do I do in the winter...close that valve and unplug the whole system? Any help would be great.
