For those who helped me with pressure spikes, thanks. Now I have a new question.
All test I've done on a neighbors water system indicates that an expansion tank is needed. I hope you can follow what sequence her water heater is plumben and I will try and post a picture too
This is how her house is plumbed
1. Water main comes into a conditioned basement concrete wall.
2. 3/4 inch main shutoff ball valve just above where line comes in.
3. Watts model?? PRV valve set to 45 psi just above shutoff valve.
4. Water line then goes up to bottom of first floor where it branches to the right to feed all fixtures in the house.
4a. The other side of the branch goes over about 8 ft to a check valve, then down just below this is a shutoff ball valve for the water heater, just below this valve is a tee fitting and down from the tee fitting is the 80 gallon electric water heater.
5. From the tee mentioned above the line is reduced to 1/2 " and a small hot water circulaiing pump is installed. The pump is pulling hot water from the hot water line on the kitchen side of the house. The pump also has a check valve on it too.
The check valve on the water heater is to prevent the little pump from pushing water back into the cold water side I think.
Question? Will the expansion tank work if I install it before the check valve on the cold water line or does it need between check valve and water heater?
I called the manuafacture of the expansion tank and got no help.
