Two sinks drain to a T which is above a J-trap.
One sink drains quietly.
The other sink creates a gurgle when it begins draining.
I'm thinking a vent problem but can't figure out what's going on.
Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

possibly a baffle tee. pop a picture of your drain and post it

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply.

at first, I thought it was the camera angle. compare the continue waste pipe with the J-bend.

your J-bend is draing the wrong way.

your problem can be fixed by takng apart the trap, cleaning it out, cutting off a 1/2'' maybe 1'' off the bottom of the tee

if it still runs slow, have your drain sewer machined out out

I don't think he's going to be able to correct that back graded angle because it looks like it might be pushed down to clear the drawer rails.

Clean the drain and replace the tee if it has a baffle in it.

OK...

I need my PLUMBING 101 book learning session updated gentlemen... :D

I see that the J-Pipe is sloping uphill so the drain will never flow properly until that is corrected, right?

The T-Baffle. Wouldn't it be better if a sanitary wye was used in this position? If the Tee is truly internally baffled, it will only continue to plug with food waste as flow is fighting an uphill battle IMO.

What schedule PVC is being used here?

I think the code used to require a baffle tee, But I don't think it's required any more. That half of drain coming off the GARBAGE disposal was a wonderful Idea.

That back grade will still drain okay. It will need cleaning now and then as it will just collect goo quicker. Unless the OP is planning on removing some drawers and drawer rails to correct the drain with proper grade.

David, zoom in on that pipe.

it is dark and fuzzy , [what was I talking about???}\\

oh,,but it looks like their is a 1/2---3/4'' space between that drawer guide????

Gonna need more than a 1\2" to bring that up to a + grade.

DWV trap arm is probably already hitting the rail on the other side of the drawer. then maybe another 2ft to the wall.
probably have to push that up 1-1/2" or more to get a + grade.

Take out the drawer. Remove the drawer face from the drawer box.
Attach the face to the cabinet. Remove the rails.
Fix the drain
Then when that's all done.
Have the drain cleaned.

Or Just clean the Drain

I dont know David, that tee looks like the trap needs to be pushed up

isnt it looking kinda long?

you may be right, i may just be obsessing

Update.
The slope on the continue waste pipe was easily adjusted and now has a proper slope to it. There was plenty of elevation between the drawer rails to do that. Thank you.

So now I need to focus on the Tee as was earlier suggested. As noted, the gurgle does not occur when draining the sink that is directly above the Tee. The gurgle only occurs when the sink to the right of the Tee is drained.
Should be able to look into that later today.
Thanks to all.

Thanks to all who responded.
Your collective suggestions solved the problem.
Slope of pipes was corrected.
Tee baffle needed cleaning out.
No more gurgling.
Thanks to all.

back to school with you.

you can not use a wye in a hor position. you can only use a tee

and you cant use a tee in vert position only hor

I was wondering why a sanitary tee wasn't used in place of a tee on a single/dual bowl hookup-

It seems the quick kits offered by the box stores only uses tees which (to me) would cause disrupted drainage flow, especially from a disposal.

Also, what is the schedule of the thin piping used in these kits? I understand SCH 30, 40 and 80.

Also, could this dbl sanitary tee (shown below) be used on a dbl sink waste if the upper (vent) hub was closed off or is there such a fitting available?
