Hello,

I am looking for some help on installing a utility sink. I would like to put the drain for the sink directly on the vent stack right above where the washing machine drains into the stack. See the pictures for proposed drain setup.

Will I need to install a bypass vent to vent air above the new sink drain?

I will likely have this done by a pro but am just trying to get an idea of what needs to be done.

Thanks for any input.

My answer is based on the 2012 UPC code

what size is that vent pipe that is there now ?

IF the existing vent pipe is 2'' then you can simply cut a tee into the the pipe and wet vent the sink drain.

if that vent is 1 1/2'' you must cut a tee in below the tee for the washing machine p trap

run a drain and revent

frodo,

Thank you for the answer. The pipe is 2" so I will simply wet vent. This is a great site and I will see what I can do to support!
