Discharge garden hose to PVC pipe?

I want to connect the discharge hose from a dehumidifier to an existing PVC drain pipe (bathtub overflow tube, accessible from behind the tub wall). Does there exist a PVC fitting that could be cut into the overflow tube that would accomodate a garden hose? Or would it be possible simply to drill a hole of the proper diameter in the side of the overflow tube and insert the end of the hose and maybe seal it with silicone? The tub is in a basement bathroom and is never used, so I don't think this would cause any problem with the drain.

why not use a wye branch tail piece on the lavatory drain instead of the tub?
slip the hose over the pipe and clamp it with a gear clamp
