So, if you haven't seen my other threads about the terrible conditions of my apartment, they've been plentiful. Thankfully the landlord finally has someone removing the skunks underneath the house, the pipes are no longer frozen, and the bathtub/toilet/sinks no longer backup when the washing machine drains.
Still at least one big issue though, the bathtub has never drained well since I lived here. They thought that by fixing the problem of it backing up would have fixed it.. wrong. Mr. rooter came again since there was a warranty on their work. The technician said the slow draining wasn't related to the original problem (although that AND the flow of water backing up was why they were originally called.) He recommended I buy zip-its and run those through the drain even though I had already done so and nothing came up. He also recommended plunging.
I filled the tub up with water and blocked off the hole near the top of the tub that controls the stopper so that pressure could be built in the system. I plunged and plunged for a good 10 minutes and just kept getting more and more dirt. There's about an inch of dirt all over the bottom of my tub and it took around 2 hours to drain. I'm so fed up with this. I'm about to call someone other than Mr. Rooter to come and fix this issue and withhold the cost of repair from rent. I notified the landlord in writing long ago and they just keep claiming "money's tight, we'll get to it eventually" well they probably shouldn't have rented out a unit with so many problems and now I know to check MUCH more thoroughly next time I rent a place. I would withhold rent but in WA it is not legal in any circumstances.
So what would be your rough estimates on the cost of repairing this broken pipe? It seems like it'd be pretty difficult as you'd have to dig up the pipe (no clue how deep they are) and you may have to go all the way to the street. If I have the repair done myself I'm only entitled up to 2 months rent free in compensation.
