Hello, I'm running my 3/4 polyethylene pipe to my house and before it comes into the house I'm wanting to install a shutoff valve. I'm wanting some type of container/box to put over and around it with a lid so I can easily access it while protecting it from the elements. Kind of like what my water meter is in only not quite as big as that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Some people have suggested a 6 inch pipe but I was wanting something a little bigger than that. Thanks

look for a valve box in the yard irrigation section

or just cut a hole in a big red beer cooler

I've looked at Ace, Lowes, and Tractor supply and nobody has anything for this. Just yesterday somebody suggested a 10 gallon water cooler to me. Sounds great but they're $70 new. I'm keeping my eye out for a junky used one.

I was wondering why I never see anybody using Polyethylene Pipe to run their water main. I always see people saying they've used pex, copper, or pvc, but I rarely see anybody saying they used PE pipe. Is there any reason to this? Is it not as good as the other pipes?

It's junk...use Sch 40 pvc from the meter to your house. install a valve with in 5' of the house and transition to the house piping at the valve with an adapter.

using a 6'' or 4'' scrap section of pipe.....cut notches in pipe and slide over the valve

What's wrong with it that makes it so bad? And unfortunately we already used it for a 350' run from the meter to our home. Everybody here recommended it so that's what we went with.

you rarely see anyone using it because it leaks, fittings are crap and so are the clamps.

if none is useing it,,,must be a reason..you think ?

I never had any problem running HDPE. 200 psi has always gotten me through. Just make sure you use stainless steel clamps. You can go to your local plumbing supply house and ask them for an irrigation box. They make small ones that look like a flower pot shaped.

The only thing I've used PE pipe for is underground gas. We have to heat fuse(melt) the joints together. Is that the same stuff you guys are talking about?

their are talking about poly pipe....

we only use it as sleeving for copper thru concrete

I believe this is what we used. It came on a 500 foot roll and was 3/4" CTS. I assumed it was PE pipe. Is it different?

Okay, Thanks.
I was trying to click on your photo for link to see more information.
After the 4th try, I realized I was tired and it's time to go to bed.

We ended up using a sump pump basin for the container. It's really heavy duty and 18 inches wide by 22 inches deep. Worked perfect for us.
