First post here so I want to say thanks ahead of time for your help. To make a long story short: closet flange leaking on the main level powder room. Leak was seen in the 90 degree elbow in basement. Plumber applied glue from the inside after removing the toilet. Acceptable and a permanent fix? Lazy and it will eventually leak? Thanks.

100 % sure. The wax ring was replaced 2x's. The plumber said that he diagnosed the issue as the seal and that he needed to replace the closet flange along with the elbow. He said that he was going to his truck to call his boss and let him know what was going on. He came back a short time later and said "let me try one last thing". Pulled the toilet, threw some glue on from the inside and it sealed it. I asked him if it was a quick fix or a permanent fix. His reply was that it was a permanent fix. By no means do i know the first thing about plumbing, hence the reason I'm posting this but my gut is telling me that this is not a permanent fix.

It is not a permanent fix. Just putting glue on the flange will not last for any length of time. If the flange was broken it needs to be replaced. The flanges we use have a stainless steel ring that will not fail over time like the all plastic ones. If you get him back to replace the flange suggest using the first one on this link. Also be sure the flange is screwed to the floor.

what john said.. My suggestion is to phone the company back and have them properly fix the problem, and make sure you are not billed for at least hour of time as pulling the toilet and the glue "fix" wasnt worth the time it took to do it.

I called and the guy said that it is common practice. He said that it is common practice to prime and glue w/out removing and replacing. I just dont see how that is common practice. Im definitely going to call back and have them come back out to fix this properly. Thanks

perhaps it is common practice for this company. I wouldnt ever do this.

Im still waiting for a return call from "the boss". Nothing yet.

Don't hold your breath. From the sounds of this guy he is not a business man. You should call the BBB and put in a complaint it may stop someone else from using him.
