Need help pls...Upstairs shower floor has a clanging sound when standing in the shower whether or not the water is on. Any ideas what could be causing that. Sounds like the top of a boiling pot clanging.

Seriously! Maybe rats under the floor having a jam session.
My first thought and then this did come mind.

Maybe an exhaust fan. Some fans have a metal flap that opens when the fan comes on. keeps the outside air from drafting in when the fan is not on.

Now I'm curious.
Upper floor of a 2 story.
What is below the shower and when does the noise occur?
When you stand in the shower?
Give me some more information to work with.
Fiberglass pan or tile?

The noise occurs when you move around in the shower. There is a squeak when you move around also, but the clanging just started a few days ago. If your still then there is no noise. It's a fiberglass pan with tiled walls. New house just 3 years old. Under the shower, don't really know. Would guess just the drain piping for the shower.

When you go down stairs to 1st floor what is under the shower? kitchen?
living room? hallway? another bathroom? Closet? Garage?

Could be a crap job of installation. pan is flexing. It shouldn't.
could be drain flexing and hitting copper pipes or duct work.
House is only 3 yrs old better call the builder and get it fixed.
maybe the only way to tell for sure is open the ceiling below

thanks, the dining room is directly under. Unfortunately the builder uses the cheapest, most minimal supplies to the basic standards. It's def possible they screwed something up.
