Cast Iron Stack

Hello,

Just had a plumber do some work for me. I needed a new connection into my cast iron vertical stack. He cut out about a one foot section and added a pvc section with fernco connectors at each end. Is this an ok method? Can this pvc section support the weight of the cast iron above it? My guess is there is about 8 ft of cast iron above it.

He should have used banded couplings.

does not center the 2 pipes,,it can laave a ridge inside the fitting

if cast came out cast should go in. absolutly no ferncos rookie work

It would be best to have replaced that section with cast-iron and used a regular no-hub coupling (no need for a transition coupling , those are used more for new cast iron connection to the old "hub" / extra heavy cast iron pipe )
However , PVC pipe should be ok (as long as there is not extensive drainage pressure ) but definitely should not have used a fernco! The couplings should be replaced asap, and since the couplings need to be replaced you might as well use a new piece of cast-iron pipe and remove the PVC.
