Can't drink the water!! Help

We had our kitchen replaced a couple of weeks ago and ever since the mains cold water taste foul, it's like a very strong chemaical taste, two other neighbours had their kitchen fitted by the same outfitters and have the same problem too. As the problem is on the mains water (drinking tap in kitchen) what is wrong? We have been told it is the new soldering and it should go within a few days but every day the water taste the same. Any idea's what the matter could be and how do we solve this? I have tried running the tap for a long time, literally hours but still the taste is there.
Be greatful for any ideas?

Non-water soluble tinning flux could be the culprit if they used it. It seems to have a stronger odor than standard water soluble flux.
