I cant figure out how to remove this mounting piece from the threaded rod. The instructions from the manufacturer (Delta) say to simply remove the piece and pull the faucet off.
As can be seen in the picture, there is a nut screwed onto the threaded rod - however its not a free nut, its part of the ring surrounding the rest of the pipes (all one solid piece). I cant even imagine how this piece could come off because after just 1 rotation, the other pipes passing through the ring would prevent the piece from turning any further.
On the top side, there are no set screws on the faucet and there is no way to remove the faucet assembly without getting this metal ring/nut off.
A basin wrench would not help me here either.. any suggestions?

After a lot of research on the web the only solution i can find to this problem is to somehow grind the piece off, but even if it comes to that does anyone know how this piece was attached to the assembly in the first place? it doesnt make sense to me.

thanks for the help.

I've installed that faucet myself, but my brain is a bit fuzzy on how it was done. First, shoot some PB Blaster or other penetrating oil on the threaded rod. I think that faucet had a special tool which loosened the nut on the base and the entire unit can be pulled up through the hole. I'm sure you don't have that special tool, but maybe a long socket or the plumber's socket will do the trick?

I can't see the nut in the pic, so I'm only guessing on what I posted above. If you are just trying to remove the faucet to replace it, you might need to use a dremel or a sawzall and just cut the damn thing off. Just do your work from the bottom, so you don't damage your counter top or sink. Good luck and I pray you have small hands.

The nut is part of the yellow metal ring around all 3 pipes.

Unfortunately i dont see how the mounting piece could even make 1 rotation with those copper pipes in the way.. even if the nut was nice and loose and i had the right tool. Just loosening the piece wont be enough.. it has to be completely removed because it wont fit through the hole in the sink. The top side of the faucet cannot (technically) be disassembled either.. which might make it possible to remove or cut the copper pipes.
My only guess is that somehow those copper pipes can be removed, allowing the piece to rotate on the threaded rod. Until then, the faucet cannot be pulled out from the top.

any other ideas? i may have to call a plumber. il be very interested to see what he can do about this piece.
thanks

I do know the entire unit drops down from the top, and is locked in from the bottom. If you disconnect the supply lines to your sink, you'll see the copper faucet attachments (the male threads) are staggered to allow it to drop in from the top.

The nut circled in red should be threaded on the threaded shank. The base ring circled in blue do not have threads, it slip over the threaded shank. The nut circled in red must be corroded and looks like it is attached to the base ring but it's nut.
