Had plumber over to fix a stoppage today. He aggressively used a large snake/rooter for about an hour before he noticed our house used a grinder pump (I didn't know this as we just moved in). He now says the pump is broken, but I'm a little concerned that his snake/rooter damaged it...as it got stuck several times and he was jamming/yanking it very aggressively. How likely is it that he could have damaged it?

Well, you likely didn't have a blockage, your pump failed. That's why it backed up. A snake can't really damage the pump itself, I would be more concerned about it damaging the wires, but it sounds more like a pump failure from what you described

I agree. wires and float switches can be damaged with a snake.
Only way to tell if he damaged them is open it up. if the pump failed or got fouled then you will still have to open it up. Or have some one open it
