I got a call this afternoon for water in the crawl space under a mobile home in my area. I have been there once before and fixed a leak on polybutylene by the water heater.

This time it was a leak on the cold line leading up to the laundry. It looks as though it had been kinked during installation, and a split had developed by the kink. But this pipe was black, something I have not seen before with polybutylene, I have always seen this pipe be gray in color.

Was polybutylene colored black as well as gray?

BTW, I had recommended that they consider a repipe last time I was out there. This time, once I told them that part of their floor needed to be replaced, they were quite interested in a quote for a repipe. Working on that now.:)

The exact name of this pipe escapes me at the molment. but what you are seeing is a common water service pipe, and was commonly used in mobile home areas.

polly B is horrid horrid pipe, and has a reputation for sudden failure.
