An hour ago I snaked out one of the pipes for the sink's drain. I used a new BrassCraft blue 25' auger. One line goes to the toilet (which I have no idea why), the other goes straight down to the sewer trap/pipe.

The straight down one is completely open. In the past I found it is the line which makes a left turn towards the toilet that is critical. I was able to open the clog then pushed in another foot and hit another major clog. I got through that and a fairly good amount of water/yuck came out. I pushed another foot without hitting anything else and figured it was good to go.

Once again (for the last hour) I have standing water in the sink. Until a week or so ago it drained fine, so I find it hard to believe that all of these really stuck clogs suddenly appeared. When I unclogged the initial clog the toilet burped and some dirt came out. That - I foolishly thought - meant that at least air was getting through.

Why does the sink drain to the toilet? This is an industrial unit, but plumbing a sink and toilet can't be that different than in a home.

And, yes, I checked the rod for the plunger and it was free of hairs.

What am I missing?

Confused about one line going to the toilet and one going down to the p-trap.
Pictures really help if you can post a couple. what may seem complicated might be something simple.
