Bath Remodel

Just started demo for a small bath remodel. Im trying to figure out what the small copper tubing is coming of the hot water side of the old tub faucet. (See Pic) It goes straight up and through the top plate of the framing.

Impossible to know for sure. It could be a hot water circulating system, but you will have to trace the line above the top plate to confirm it.

Just an update. I pulled out the faucet and cut off the unknown copper tubing and found that it was attached to anything in the attic. So I dont know if it was an old way to vent the old gas water heater before the new one was installed or what...oh well back to work! Thanks for your help all who posted responses!
