We purchased a 6 gallon steel pre-charged pressure tank that indicates vertical mounting. What is the downside of mounting it horizontally?

If your talking about a thermo expansion tank they can be mounted horizontally but the must be supported.

Not thermo expansion tank. We need a pressure accumulation tank to reduce the duty cycle of our 12V RV water pump. We think the vertical mounting recommendation must be to prevent air from getting into the water line. By mounting vertically any air bubble would rise to the top of the tank and not be able to go out the in/out fitting. Does that make sense?
