So my tank needed new guts and I bought a complete kit. I opened the tank drained it, and noticed four bolts holding it down to the bowl. It is an older toilet I am sure.

I removed the four bolts, pulled the tank to replace the flapper. The gasket that went from the tank to the bowl was also bad apparently because it ripped when I pulled it out. Here is the part I am having trouble with.

The gasket that was there, was square as it attached to the bowl and then to a round as it went around the spanner nut under the tank. The bowl has a recess to hold the gasket to it, as it seats. I cannot find that gasket to replace it. The toilet is rendered useless now and I need a solve. If you guys need a pic, let me know and i will take it down and get a couple of them.

Wow. I have been selling toilets for almost 18 years and i have never seen one with four bolts holidng down the tank, let alone a square gasket.

Is there a name brand on the toilet? Most major manufacturers will put this on the bowl between the seat and tank, or possibly on the underside of the tank lid.

Here are a few pics, two of them are of the gasket, one is of of the bowl. It is actually an oval, not a square. Yes I am very good with geometric shapes, I replied to this and for some reason put square... :D

In any event, no one has seen or heard of this type before and as luck would have it, there are no markings at all on the toilet, the tank, the bowl, the lid, no where. Please tell me someone has seen this before.

Huh, the gasket actually looks like the really old-style crane gaskets. Is it about 1 1/8" thick from top to bottom?

I can definetly tell you that I have never seen that before and I've been plumbing for about 20 yrs. If you can't find the gaskets anywhere you might have to just bite the bullet and replace the toilet. Have you tried any smaller plumbing supply houses. Lots of times the smaller guys that deal alot in repair parts can come up with something with you.
