Plumbing professionals and DIYs,

There is a 3" tapped wye cemented into the garage floor. The threaded cap hasn't been removed since 1942, the year the house was built.

Is there a way to loosen this cap without damaging the wye? I sprayed Liquid Wrench all around the cap and cleaned the exposed threads with a wire wheel. I then put a 1-5/16 wrench on the square notch but the cap won't budge.

Thanks in advance

No. drill some hole in it. then use a saws all to slice it like a pie, being careful not to loose the piece down the drain. looks like it was not screwed into the fitting very far. only the threads that had the plug screw into it will be okay. MAYBE. but any threads below that will be no good. if you want to screw a another fitting into it you may have to re-tap it with a 3" pipe tap.
