A picture or two would help the experts guide you with the correct path. By the way....welcome to the forum!

i was going to heat up solder and undo old one that way cant seem to unscrew old flotec and dont want to break pipe should i try and unscrew it? thanks

Sounds plausible, but if you can unsolder, why just not resolder? I'm sorry, I just don't trust Sharkbites, regardless of all their hype. Also, shouldn't your ground wire be clamped to both sides of the filter?

i been trying again to unscrew the old housing do i turn it towards me or away lol put some superzilla on there see if itd help i got idea of keeping canister on and using that for leverage butstupid pipe out of water heater stops it ,thanks

why? the housing is just a housing, the filter does the work ,seems like you are doing something for nothing.

How old is that gate valve? If you start taking things apart perhaps take the opportunity to replace it with a ball valve. Assuming there is another valve upstream from it.

We had a 1950's era gate valve fail closed, which was replaced with a ball valve, and another one is currently stuck open, which will be replaced when the main line is. (The open one is not a pressing issue since we also have a shutoff at the curb, and if push comes to shove, the city valve is just beyond that.

At the very least consider rebuilding the gate valve, since the washer in there is probably rock hard.
