Hi gang,

I'm installing a shower-only rough-in valve and of course, it needs to be installed directly over a stud.

What is the best way to handle this? I can't just cut that stud away because of the plaster wall on the other side (I will break the wall if I rip it out).

Notch the stud, then reinforce with extra studs? Blocking? Or something even easier?

you could try a muli master tool to slip behind the stud and cut the nails ataching the wall to the stud. i have one made by Milwaukee and they work well for this kind of job. just have a few new blades for it.

Probably the easiest fix at this point is to notch the stud, and reinforce it with another stud right beside it. Of course, you will have to notch that stud to install the valve, but at least you won't have to notch it all the way up to the showerhead.
