Thanks IMG_1534.jpeg

Ok but if I get a single glare tool will the 1/2” setting work or do I need a tool with 5/8” setting? The tube is 1/2” OD

For 1/2” of tube you use 1/2” flare setting.

The flaring tool you posted will work, just use the single flare, no adapters needed. That tool will do both double/single.

Older tube can be hard to flare with those cheap flaring tools.

Thank you!

Thanks for false information. 😡
Hahaha, you came here. You are playing with gas, have no idea what you're doing, asked for advice, it was given, and now you decide that it's OK to be an ******* and still expect help. You probably don't even know what type of system you have.

No sir! One person told me that the flare kit I have pictured wouldn’t work, another said yes it would work fine. I tried to reply to the person that said it wouldn’t work. I’m new to forums and I guess I messed up. I DID thank the person that gave me the answer to the question I asked. I wasn’t being a ***hole! I’m sorry if I offended you.
Oh, and the job I was asking about is done, and operational without leaks. So I guess I know a little more than you thought I did.

I may have overreacted a bit. seemed to me like you were being ungrateful since the post you were trying to reply to was not quoted, and the message was very sarcastic so pretty easy to take as you being a bit of a jerk... MicEd was not wrong, but may not have realized that it could do both styles. Glad your project is done. I am curious, it looks like you might be on a high pressure setup. Do you have to have regulators at each appliance? What were you adding the line for?

I see a bushing and what appears to be Teflon tape at the flare threads, maybe not.

We live in a mobile home and where we are we get a lot of severe storms, and we occasionally get ice storms and lose power. I installed a wall heater as a backup so we would have heat if we lost power. I’m a retired house painter and have minimal plumbing and electrical experience .IMG_1568.jpeg

I too am glad your job is done, but it is a little disconcerting when someone who doesn't know about gas lines work on them.

As Twowaxhack said, it does appear they may be Teflon tape on a flare joint that isn't required and can be problematic.

Also, there is a reducing bushing in your picture that is illegal for use in gas piping.

You may not have installed these items shown in your picture, but if you followed these examples, you may have installed some non-code items that may be dangerous.

The picture of the meter is how it was hooked up by the gas company when the gas was hooked up when the mobile home was set on my property 20 years ago and hasn’t been touched since. lol this is Alabama and the gas company sees it every month when they read the meter. I spliced into the line under the mobile home.

It’s still improper, I don’t care who did it or when and the flunkies that read your meter don’t care and probably don’t know.

Roll tide.

The problem with bushings is that the outside and inside threads together reduce the wall thickness of the fitting and they’re subject to cracking at that point.

Some bushing are long enough and the outer threads and the inside threads are separated and do not get cut back to back. I showed this to a few inspectors and they didn’t want to see it……because they’re mostly idiots. These were heavy stainless bushings, #300 class.

My wife told me an employee of Northwest Alabama Gas District came and inspected it and checked for leaks before it was used and gave he the ok.
Oh I don’t do roll tide, I’m originally from Lancing Michigan, GO BLUE!

I’m not saying it’s leaking. I’m saying it’s an improper connection.

The gas guy missed it or doesn’t know or simply doesn’t care.

Don’t confuse me pointing it out as me caring……I don’t live there, I don’t care if you leave it.
